See below for Vic and Jim’s stories
Jim’s car is a 1966 Ford Galaxie 500. It has a 352 V8 with Cruise-O-Matic transmission, AM radio, and power steering. It is considered a survivor car with only 11K actual miles.
Val and I purchased this car in 2012. I had been looking for a convertible for a few months earlier originally looking for 1962 as we had a sedan of this model when I was growing up. I saw the ad in Hemmings for a 1966 convertible with only 8K miles listed at that time. I called and asked if the mileage listing was in error and should it be 108K? The owner was a retired GM Parts guy and turning clean used cars was his side business. He assured me that the 8K was correct and he had the history. The problem was that he and the car were back in Pennsylvania. He was kind enough to send me more photos and answer my questions. Then I broke the golden rule and bought the car without seeing it in person. I had it shipped and was fortunate to be driving by the shipping depot in Granada Hills when it was being unloaded from the carrier. It was what was advertised. It had the original equipment and original tires. I have updated the wear out items. I drive it a couple times a month and to this point, it has been a very trouble-free car.
Vic’s first car was a 1964 Caliente convertible. I had to sell it when I was 25. I always wanted another convertible, so when this number matching 1966 Fairlane 500 XL 390/C6/9inch. Came along, I bought it.
